To start there is some good info on the wiki here kidchameleon.fandom.com/wiki/Kid_Chameleon
Scroll down to Sega Visions section and the wiki goes over the first early shot of KC that we know of.
Its in Sega Visions Vol 1 Issue 7 Winter 1991/1992 page 29. An unused city-themed level with early hud and strange looking prize block.
Most pre release media is from or leading up to winter CES 1992. The 1992 Consumer Electronics Show took place January 9 - 12 in Las Vegas at the convention center.
Mean MeanMachines UK 17 Feb 92 page 12 list the games Sega has at the show, here we see a possible prototype name listed "Kevin Kidd".
In the next shot we have Game Players Sega Genesis Strategy Guide February-March page 15 another prototype name? "Dylan Charles: A.K.A The Chameleon" and another early screenshot.
It also has the same early Hud and is taken on the level Crab Cove (the same level in the top banner of the forum).
This same screenshot also appears in Micom BASIC April 1992 page 64 winter CES coverage
Is the 2 in place of the hit points icons a health place holder? This shot may have been a photo sent to the press since its in two magazines.
Next is the Gamepro screenshots these have a final hud but Shishkaboss is incomplete and has a different level layout and Skycutter is available. In the other picture Maniaxe is in BLW
Maybe Gamepro magazine was able to get a sneak peak do to them being close to Sega Technical Institute?
Everything during and after CES has the final name Kid Chameleon from what I can tell.
The only prototype we have is a nearly complete version of the game. A quote from saxman "The final game *literally* makes two changes following the one KC prototype we have (a single rubber block added to Forced Entry, and conditional logic to make the "murder wall" slower on Hills of the Warrior I)."
Here is the link to the hidden palace page hiddenpalace.org/Category:Kid_Chameleon_prototypes (A bit of a coincidence since much of the art in KC was done by Craig Stitt the creator of hidden palace level art from Sonic 2)
This prototype may be the one shown at CES do to the date or maybe the final game was shown.
